Set up task durations on a template, which can be used to populate the task and project due dates.

Before you can set Task Duration Values, you must have access to your Mox workspace and an Account Owner or Workspace Owner role.

Setting Duration Values

Task durations can be configured on a template.

Step 1: Open Settings > Project Templates and select a template.

Step 2: Click on a task row to open the task detail panel.

Step 3: Enter or update a duration (in workdays) for each task.

Once you create a new project from that template, task, and project due dates will be populated.

Note: Sub-tasks do not have a duration field. You can set the duration only for the parent task.

Calculating Due Dates

  • Calculations are set in workdays (Monday-Friday.) If a task starts on a Friday and has a duration of 1 workday, it will be due on Monday.

  • There must be at least one duration value set on the template to calculate due dates. If a duration value is empty, but some tasks have a duration value set, the task with the empty value will be treated as a value of 0 workdays.

  • Task and project due dates are in the UTC Time zone.

  • The overall project due date will be the same as the due date for the last task within your workflow.

  • When saving a project as a template with durations, if a task is due on a weekend, that task is treated as due at the end of day Friday. For example, if Task A is due Thursday and Task B is due Saturday, Task B will have a duration of 1 day, as the duration from Thursday to Friday is 1 day.

Modifying Due Dates in Projects

  • Due dates are populated from the template but can be modified after the project is created by clicking on the due date field.

Saving a Project as a Template

Use this feature to automatically populate task and project due dates in your projects using templates. Mox calculates task durations based on your project's task due dates. Task durations are calculated in weekdays (Monday-Friday).

Step 1: Create a project and set task due dates.

Step 2: Click on the ... to select Save Project as Template.

Step 3: In the Save Project as Template window, type a meaningful name for the template, and select Task Durations as well as whichever other parts of the project you want to include in the template.

Step 4: Click Save. The new template will open.

Step 5: To review the task durations on the new template, click on each task to open the task details panel. Make any necessary changes to the durations. Your changes will be saved on the new template.

When you create a project from your new template, each task will populate with a Due Date, based on the task durations set on the template.

If the duration is zero or empty, then a duration of 0 is used to calculate date dates.

Note: Once your project is created, you are able to change the task Due Dates if needed. If you change any task due dates, tasks that follow or the overall project due date will not update automatically. You will need to manually update the end date of your project.

Working with Sub-Projects

Step 1: Save a project as a template that has sub-projects.

Step 2: Set the task duration values on the template's sub-project.

When you create a project from this template, the sub-projects, and due dates will be populated.

Note: Creating sub-projects in project context from templates with durations is not supported.
